8-year-old girl battles cancer, community comes to her aid
OCEAN VIEW, Del. – In late November, 8-year-old Aurora began complaining of a stomach ache.
“Thanksgiving Eve, she started complaining about pain in her stomach,” said Kimmy Thompson, a family friend.
“The family honestly thought maybe appendicitis or just a constipation problem,” said Thompson.
But, just recently her family learned that stomach ache was an indication of something more serious.
Aurora was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer.
“Aurora has always been such a loving little girl,” said Thompson.
“She has a heart of gold, and she didn’t deserve this,” said Thompson.
Aurora was rushed to the hospital and after her kidneys started to fail doctors told them the cancer had already spread to other parts of her body.
Because this may be Aurora’s last Christmas, Thompson called out to friends for help.
“We are here today to make this the best Christmas this little girl ever imagined,” she said.
On Sunday, dozens of Aurora’s closest friends came out to show support and let her know she is not alone.
“We came out here to support Aurora because we want to help her fight and help her get better,” said Jack Lovellette, a friend of Aurora.
“If there’s anything that we can do today is just inspire her and let her know that she has so many people behind her and that we love her,” said Steve Lovellette.
Now all sorts of Christmas gifts, canned foods and even posters and letters from her friends will soon be making their way to Aurora’s hospital room.
“The canned food is to help the family because when they get home, they’re not going to have time to grocery shop,” said Thompson.
Aurora’s family has started a GoFundMe page and they are looking to raise $20,000 dollars as the amount of treatment she will need is uncertain.
