Work to begin on second phase of boardwalk access project in OC
OCEAN CITY, Md. – It’s official, work will soon begin on the second phase of the boardwalk access project meaning we will soon be seeing permanent barriers on the boards.
The beach town accepted the nearly 2 million dollar bid to install barriers submitted by Hercules Fence.
It’s a bid that is nearly one million dollars under project budget, which is good news for the town.
The second phase of the project involves installing permanent barriers at access points along the boardwalk and at the inlet parking lot.
It’s a project Ocean City leaders say is necessary.
Mayor Rick Meehan said, “So it’s quite an extensive project. It’s unfortunate in this day and age you need to do something like that. Protecting the people that are on the boardwalk, our residents, our visitors from something that may never happen is important because we want to be prepared just in case that scenario brings itself upon us.”
Construction is set to begin as soon as December, and will likely finish up before the summer season.
