Winter Wonderfest kicks off holiday season in Delaware
LEWES, Del. – “This is the unofficial kickoff,” said event director Peter Briccotto.
Winter Wonderfest’s light spectacular is ringing in the holiday season with dazzling light displays at Cape Henlopen State park.
Following the 1.5 mile trail of twinkling bulbs, candy canes, gingerbread men, and many more of your favorite holiday characters, the drive-around track takes you through a vivid holiday adventure ride and you can see it all from the comfort of your car.
Briccotto said, “You can stay bundled up, have your hot cocoa in the car, load up the family and enjoy it all.”
Briccotto also tells 47 ABC, for the last two years, families have made the light display a Thanksgiving night tradition.
Moving on from the fall season into the ‘fa-la-la-la’ season, he says his team works tireless hours to keep the display fresh year after year.
“People enjoy our light display because we change up the displays every year, its not the same show each and every year.”
But, its not the thrill of changing up the displays or watching the crowds drive in that keep the light spectacular alive.
It’s the kids, from one to 92, that keep it going.
Briccotto said, “The most exciting part about this is greeting the kids. There’s such excitement on their faces when they pull up knowing they’re going to see these lights. That motivates us to keep going through all the craziness.”
Because Wonderfest is Delaware’s biggest Holiday fundraiser, Bricotto tells 47 ABC its just another reason to inspire folks to get into the holiday spirit of giving.
He said, “A lot of people now are getting in the Christmas spirit much sooner thanks to events like Winter Wonderfest here at the beach.”
