Wicomico Co. Sheriff’s Office one step closer to new public safety complex
SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office is one step closer to making their dream of a new public safety complex a reality.
On Friday, the sheriff’s office officially put their signs in the ground at what will soon be their new home. Right now. it’s just 9 acres of undeveloped land, but come this time next year they’re hoping to break ground on the new public safety complex.
Wicomico Sheriff Mike Lewis says this has been a long time coming, but it’s needed since they are extremely cramped in their building right now.
He also adds this will help deputies better respond to calls for service.
“It’s strategically located where we can respond very quickly to our calls very accessible to the bypass half mile from the bypass and we can go any direction in the county we need to go but the bulk of our calls for service are going to be handled in an area now where our new public safety complex is going to be,” explains Lewis.
Right now, they’re putting in requests for qualifications to see who will construct this new building because this is no ordinary structure and there are unique challenges that come with erecting a public safety facility.
They’re hoping to break ground late next year or early 2020 with a completion date of 18 to 24 months after breaking ground.
