Waverly Drive set to get protected bike lane in Salisbury
SALISBURY, Md. – The city of Salisbury is making strides to make the city more accessible for everyone, especially bikers.
We’re told the Waverly Drive corridor will soon have a protected two-way bike lane so people can get around town easier by bicycle not just cars.
It’s the first steps from the city’s 2016 Bicycle Master Plan to better connect the community.
“We’re interested in our visitors finding a community that is accessible in a variety of ways but more importantly we’re looking at making sure that people can commute around our city without having to pay for. buy or maintain a car if they don’t want to. People should be able to move in public space whatever way they want to and so we need to make sure they’re safe when they’re doing so,” explains Salisbury Mayor Jake Day.
They plan on putting curbing wherever they can in the city to keep the bikers and motorists face.In addition to Waverly Drive, they will also be putting in bike lanes at Fitzwater and Carroll Streets as well as South Salisbury Boulevard.
