Veteran surprised with new car
SALISBURY, Md. – This Veterans Day weekend, one local hero was honored by the local Elk Lodge and Pohanka of Salisbury with a huge gift.
Deborah Hastings, an active member of the Marines who served from 1971 to 1973, was given the keys to her brand new car Saturday.
The ceremony was held at the Elks Lodge and the car supplied by Pohanka.
Hastings served in Arlington, Virginia, and worked shipping supplies over to Vietnam.
Hastings lives on a limited fixed income and relies very heavily on her vehicle to get her and her mother to and from appointments almost on a daily basis.
This gift comes at the perfect time for her as her ride needed several repairs, which outweighed the actual value of the car.
This was part of the Elks Lodge’s third Annual Warrior Fest, along with Pohanka Pays It Forward initiative.
