Town of Laurel celebrates 3rd annual tree lighting

LAUREL, Del. – In Laurel, residents gathered today to take part in the town’s 3rd annual tree lighting ceremony to kick off their Christmas celebration. The event, which was put on by the Laurel LEO Club, had hundreds of residents standing in awe as they watched the towns Christmas tree sparkle and shine right on main street.Other activities residents took part in included Christmas Caroling, a canned food drive, games and more. And event organizers say the celebration was the perfect way for the town’s youth to give back to their community.

“We are the teen version of Lion’s Club and we are here to serve our community and they wanted something to give back to the community. The kids wanted to step up and do their part and we just feel that it’s really important for them to learn volunteering young, and to just get themselves involved in the community,” said LEO Club Advisor Jami Gordy.

Officials add that more Christmas activities will be happening in Laurel over the next couple of weeks. Including the town;s Christmas parade which will take place on December 7th.
