Sussex Tech receives grant to up automotive technology
GEORGETOWN, Del. – In Sussex County, one local technical high school is getting much needed funds to get their students ready for the workforce.
Sussex Technical High School is now able to purchase equipment and software for their automotive technology program at the school to have students career ready upon graduation.
Thanks to a federal grant aimed at expanding high school career pathways, their body shop will be able to teach students how to become a mechanic.
It’s an industry that’s desperately seeking qualified workers.
“What we try to do in our tech areas is mirror the workplace and this grant will allow us to buy the software to do diagnosis in this specific area in diesel mechanics to diagnose what’s wrong with the car be able to replace our tools with more modern state of the art tools,” explains Stephen Guthrie, Sussex Tech Superintendent.
We’re told the construction industry and all the trades that come with that as well as the automotive industry have the biggest need for skilled workers in Sussex County and statewide.
