SU holds vigil in honor of victims in Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting
SALISBURY, Md.– Almost two weeks ago, 11 people lost their lives during the Pittsburgh Synagogue shooting.
A tragedy that could have torn the country a part , but instead has brought most together, including students and faculty at Salisbury University.
On Sunday at 5:30 p.m. people joined together at the Red Square to honor the lives lost. During the vigil the names of each of the victims were read out loud.
This shooting is known to be the largest attack on the Jewish community in U.S. history. Which is why school officials believe now is the time more than ever, for everyone to come together and fight for what’s right.
“I think this is a good time to sorta be solemn and respectful of those who lost their lives so tragically. But also to think about ways in which we can stay involved , stay informed and fight against this kind of violence,” says Dr. Maarten Pereboom, Dean Professor of History.
In continuation after the vigil, on Monday at 7:00 p.m. there will be an open panel discussing the topic “Anti-Semitism: Past and Present,” at the Guerrieri Academic Commons Assembly Hall.
