State police investigate fatal crash in Caroline County

PRESTON, Md.- Maryland State Police are investigating a vehicle crash that killed one person and injured another earlier this week.

Police say on November 20th around 12:45 p.m. they responded to reports of a crash in the area of the 6000 block of Harmony Road near Wilkins Branch Road in Preston, Maryland.

Investigators determined that the driver of a red Buick Encore, Linda Sweitzer, 76, crossed the center line and struck a white Peterbilt dump truck. Sweitzer was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the dump truck, Gary Whitten, 52, was taken to Easton Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The roadway was closed until 10:20 p.m. Tuesday night, while crews were cleaning up the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
