Smyrna man arrested for attempted robbery

SMYRNA, Del. – Delaware State Police have arrested a Smyrna man after they say he tried to rob an area bookstore Sunday afternoon.

Police say the incident took place at approximately 2 PM at Acorn Books, located at 2421 S. DuPont Blvd, in Smyrna.

The suspect, 37-year-old Daniel Lilly, reportedly entered the business and approached a 47-year-old male employee, stating that he had a gun and demanded all of the money out of the register. The employee then directed Lilly to the register, providing him with the opportunity to flee the business. The employee was able to lock the door on his way out, leaving Lilly locked inside alone.

A Delaware State Police K-9 team found Lilly hiding in a closet inside the business and was able to take him into custody without incident.

Lilly was charged with one count of first degree attempted robbery. He was arraigned and committed tot he Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $25,000 secured bond.
