Serious crash in Rehoboth under investigation

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash that happened Friday morning in Rehoboth Beach.

Officials say the incident took place around 9:45 AM, when a Mercury Mariner passenger car traveling northbound in the left turn lane of State Route 1 left its travel lane, crossed a concrete median, and entered the southbound lane in front of a concrete mixer. The front of the concrete mixer struck the Mariner as a result.

The driver of the Mariner, a 48-year-old female from Lewes, was properly restrained at the time of the accident and was trapped in the vehicle. Emergency crews and the Sussex County Technical Rescue Team were able to free her from the vehicle. She was initially taken to Beebe Medical Center but was later transferred to Christiana Hospital where she was listed in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the cement mixer, a 34-year-old male from Dover, was also properly restrained and was taken to Beebe Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He has since been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
