Salisbury University discusses antisemitism in wake of Pittsburgh synagogue shooting
SALISBURY, Md. – On Monday Salisbury University held a panel discussion touching on the controversial topic of antisemitism.
In the wake of the tragedy in Pittsburgh, faculty at the university not only want to educate the school community but also the local community about the crippling effects that senseless acts of hate can have on a community.
Dr. Maarten Pereboom the dean of the Fulton Liberal Arts School says he’s taught the Holocaust for nearly 25 years.
He tells us the sooner we understand these issues and do our best to not recreate history, the sooner we prevent these things from happening.
Pereboom said, “These prejudices are pretty much impossible to eradicate it seems unfortunately, so we need to understand them and keep them in check.”
Dr. Pereboom hopes that after Monday’s discussion, the community will better understand the importance of having these conversations and better respond to acts of hate, to keep everyone safe.
