Route 90 dualization still far from being in the works

OCEAN CITY, Md. – On Tuesday, the Ocean City town council once again grilled Maryland’s State Highway Administration on when the route 90 bridge dualization project they so desperately want will be considered and taken seriously.

It’s been an ongoing plea from the city and Worcester County as a priority for safety and access reasons, such as the fact that first responders can’t get to and from emergencies when the bridge is closed due to accidents.

They also brought up traffic concerns for visitors to the beach area.

But once again, SHA was quick to address the amount of funds and studies that would be required to do a project of this size.

“Route 90 is a priority route for us as well, but the dualization has to go through a process. It has to go through environmental studies as well when you’re dealing with billion dollar projects you have to do planning studies, so to say that we want a road dualized it’s not a matter of okay tomorrow we will start on that,” explains James Meredith, SHA District Engineer.

SHA says to keep moving this along, Worcester County and Ocean City have to keep it as a priority and keep it on their radar, but based on the city council meeting Tuesday that won’t be an issue.
