Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office warning residents of new scam
CENTREVILLE, Md. – The Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a new scam that is circulating the area.
Officials say the scam comes in the form of a letter, stating that a distant relative has left their bank account with an open beneficiary status. The scammer claims that in order to receive the funds, you must contact them directly.
Those who receive these scam letters should contact the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 1-877-876-2455. You may also file a complaint online with the Postal Inspection Service or the Federal Bureau of Investigation Internet Crime Complaint Center.
