PRMC Nurse earns Sunshine Award

SALISBURY, Md. – A CNA with Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s Mobile Nursing Unit recently earned the Sunshine Award for her compassionate care on the job.

Celanie Dameus was nominated by one of her coworkers, a nurse who was caring for a critically ill patient who spoke Creole. The nurse was using the Language Line with the patient, however, she could see that her patient was feeling scared and helpless. She feared that she wasn’t getting through to the patient.

The nurse called Dameus, who speaks Creole, to help. Dameus came down from another floor and quickly helped the nurse reposition the patient to make her more comfortable, and she was able to calm the patient with her positive, caring nature.

In her nomination, the nurse wrote, “I get the pleasure of working with Celanie a lot, and I can truly say there aren’t many people who are more deserving of the Sunshine Award. She comes to work every night and makes a difference in her patients’ lives and their care. It doesn’t matter what kind of a night you may be having, if you have Celanie on your team, the night is going to go smoothly. She cares immensely for the patients and nurses as a whole, and that is who we need on our team.”

Dameus was honored in a ceremony in front of her coworkers, and was presented with fresh flowers, a pin, and a certificate recognizing her exceptional care.
