Poly advances to the Semifinals in OT thriller vs Sussex Tech
Polytech field hockey defeated Sussex Tech 2-1 in overtime to advance to the DIAA D1 semifinals.
After a scoreless first half, the Ravens opened up the scoring. During a scrum in front of the cage, Aynasti Bowden knocks it to the back of the net to give the Ravens the 1-0 lead. Just minutes later, Polys Lacy Bayley would get the equalizer off of a penalty stroke. Despite many opportunities for both teams, regulation world end in a 1-1 tie forcing OT.
Much like regulation, overtime would be a defensive battle. Neither offense able to get one into the net until Sussex knocked it in, only to be wiped off for being too high.
With under 3 minutes to play, Poly would be in desperation mode. Off of a corner, Mackenzie Estrada would send it in front if the cage to Lacy Bayley and she would tap it in from there. The second goal for Bayley ends the game sending Poly to the Semifinals.
Polytech will play Cape in a rematch of last years Semifinals, a game in which the Vikings shut out Poly 4-0. Game day set for November 13th.
