New E-Coli outbreak linked to romaine lettuce
DOVER, Del. – The Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) is warning residents of a multi-state outbreak of E-Coli that has been linked to romaine lettuce.
The outbreak has been reported across 11 states, including New Jersey and Maryland. 13 people have been hospitalized, but there have been no reported deaths.
So far there have been no confirmed cases in Delaware, but consumers are urged to take proper precautions to avoid illness.
Consumers that have any type of romaine lettuce at home should throw it out, even if some of it was eaten and no one has gotten sick. This includes whole heads of romaine, hearts of romaine or bags and boxes of pre-cut lettuce and salad mixes that contain romaine.
Health officials say that if you aren’t sure if the lettuce or salad mix contains romaine, you should not eat it and should throw it away.
Restaurants and retailers should not serve or sell romaine lettuce in any form.
