Millsboro Police kick off Whiskers for Wishes campaign

MILLSBORO, Del. – Millsboro police are getting ready to kick off one of their most important projects in the community, the Whiskers For Wishes campaign.

According to the Millsboro Police Spokesperson, Sergeant David Moyer, the campaign is a chance to help families who are in need during the holiday season.

Moyer said officers donate a part of their check each month to help fund for things like toys and coats for these families.

To pull this off, they partner with the Grace United Methodist Church.

Moyer also said some of the police officers even grow beards as a way to promote their campaign to the community.

“We got comments from the public wondering why we were able to grow facial hair and that brought up the conversation of what we were doing in the community and how we were helping needy families,” said Moyer.

“People got on board and started to support the idea, businesses in the area love the idea,” said Moyer.

According to the sergeant, last year the police department raised 3,000 dollars, but they hope more local businesses will help out with donations.
