TOWNSEND, Del.– Fire Companies from all three counties in Delaware and even parts of Kent County, Maryland were called to the scene of a massive and devastating fire at a popular farmer’s market in New Castle County.

Willey Farms was completely burned to the ground early Monday morning. Fire officials say that the four-alarm fire erupted shortly after 2:00AM quickly engulfing the 60,000 sq ft property.

The owners took to Facebook to break the new to their loyal customers saying:

“Hi Guys. We’re all safe. The firefighters tried to save her. They worked real hard. But Willey Farms is gone. From the deli thru to the greenhouse. Produce. Natural Foods. Home Accents. She’s all gone. We don’t know where to start really. Kinda numb right now. It will be lots of hard heartbreaking work. But she will be built again. We do know that. Thank you for reaching out to us. Thank you for being our customers and friends for 43 years. Thank you so much. Thank you for your continued prayers and thoughts.”

According to our affiliate in Philadelphia, 6ABC WPVI,  the fire was so intense, that firefighters had to evacuate the building because of the possibility of a collapse. There have been no reports of injuries and route 13 was shut down in both directions at Willeys Drive.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal says that as of right now, the cause is still unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
