Local residents prepare for Black Friday shopping

SALISBURY, Md. – The biggest online holiday shopping events of the year Black Friday and Cyber Monday are coming up, but local residents are making sure their bank accounts are kept safe from fraud.

According to experts, some scammers might pose as businesses or even as people in order to trick consumers into handing over their personal information through things like surveys.

Not only that, but the scammers might ask consumers to share with friends on social media putting even more people at risk.

But, despite the risks, online shopping still remains extremely popular this time of year, as locals tell 47 ABC, they rely on it.

“It is important to us, so I can take my child out and get all the things she wants that are on sale, and it’s definitely beneficial to have a sale now that we have a little one at home,” said Taylor, a local resident.

Experts also said to be wary of any website that asks for private information or payment information.

If a person is unsure if a website or offer is legitimate, they can enter it into google to see what other people say about it. If there is any mention of it being a scam, people should steer clear.
