Local high school selling student grown poinsettias
SALISBURY, Md. – It’s that time of year, the holiday season is here and what better way to celebrate than with poinsettias.
“We get to grow them ourselves like pretty much from the start and so the students are pretty much doing it themselves,” explains Parkside High School student Brooke Kelley.
Every one of these poinsettias was planted and grown by students at Parkside High school in and they thrive at the greenhouse they operate.
“For the last 11 or 12 weeks the students started these plants and they’ve been mothering these plants along for the last weeks and they’ve been taken care of them. So we’re blessed to have these facilities so we can take care of these plants,” explains Jerry Kelley, a horticulture instructor at Parkside High School.
Believe it or not they’ve already sold an entire greenhouse full of them and they still have about 1,500 left.
This time of year is special for all of us and I know a lot people are running around but we really appreciate the support that we’ve gotten from the community. The whole idea of buying local and locally grown by our students here at Parkside so we appreciate the support,” explains Kelley.
