Indian River High School band creates fundraisers to go to National Memorial Day Parade

DAGSBORO, Del. – A high school band in the first state is trying to raise some funds for a national event by hosting a winter festival.

The Indian River High School band wants to participate in the National Memorial Day Parade in D.C., an honor they were given by Governor John Carney, but they need money to do it.

This first attempt to raise the cash will be called Mingle with Kringle. Mingle with Kringle will give kids a chance to hang out with Santa, while parents get to do some shopping.

Organizers say the cost is $5 and all the money goes towards the D.C. trip. The band booster president, Lisa Bird, says that they have 110 members who each need about $350 to go and she also says your support will help them get there.

Mingle with Kringle is on December 8th at the Millville fire hall from 8 in the morning until noon. If you can’t make it, the band is hosting a tree disposal event on January 5th and all you have to do is give a donation.

The National Memorial Day Parade is happening on may 27th and it is the nation’s largest Memorial Day event.
