Easton Elementary after school program needs funds to continue to grow

EASTON, Md. – In Talbot County, the second largest elementary school in the state needs your help when it comes to funding for after school programming.

The Chesapeake Multicultural Resource Center teamed up with the school district to host this after school program five years ago.

This grant serves over 100 students a day, providing academic learning plus sports development and an evening meal.

But they were just notified two weeks ago, they would not get another grant. Now, they need financial aid to make sure they can continue to grow the program.

Matthew Peters, the director of the Chesapeake Multicultural Resource Center says, “It’s staffing that’s the issue, so you know we do rely on volunteers but with a little bit of funding, around $5,000, we can add a small group of children cause we can have at least two adults there to run the programming that we’ve already developed in the past five years.”

We’re told the funding will also help keep students fed because all the after school students receive free and reduced meals.

Chesapeake Multicultural Resource Center says they plan to continue to apply for state and federal funds to continue to grow.
