Duffle bags donated to Del. foster care children gives sense of ownership
GEORGETOWN, Del. – With over 700 children entering foster care across the first state, one organization is donating a unique gift that could make a world of a difference.
The Lower Delaware Duffle Bag project sponsored by the Sussex County Volunteer Delaware 50+ Advisory Council is giving brand new duffle bags to foster care children in Sussex and Kent Counties. On Tuesday, they delivered 80 bags to the Division of Social Services.
They are hand made by 68 volunteers. A grant from the Perdue Foundation assured that they would meet their goal this first year.
We’re told that children who enter foster care have little to nothing. With the little amount that they do have, they tend to use a trash bag. By using these trash bags, children may equate themselves to garbage. That’s why these duffle bags are so important because it gives them something to call their own.
