UPDATE: DSP investigating crash involving school bus
HARBESON, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a crash involving a school bus in Harbeson.
The incident happened just after 3 PM Thursday, on Harbeson Road north of Johnson Road. Officials say a school bus from Sussex Central High School was traveling southbound on Harbeson Road when an SUV on Hurdle Ditch Road failed to remain stopped and pulled into the path of the bus, causing the crash. The school bus then traveled off of the roadway into a nearby ditch.
We’re told there were 21 people total on the bus at the time of the crash, including the driver. Four students and a bus aid were transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The uninjured students were taken back to school to be picked up by parents.
The driver of the SUV was issued a citation for failure to remain stopped.
47 ABC spoke with Sussex Central High School’s principal who tells us he’s glad no one was seriously hurt.
“Anytime there is an injury all students on bus are brought back to school. The parents pick them up here they go through a triage and we release them to parent.”
Officials tell us the road was closed between Hurtle Ditch Road and Hollyville Road for a little over two hours.
