Cambridge residents prepare for 70th annual Christmas Parade
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Residents in Cambridge are gearing up for the city’s 70th annual tree lighting and Christmas parade this weekend. Before the parade starts on Saturday, Cambridge residents and officials will gather around to celebrate the official lighting of the Crab Basket Tree that’s made out of 200 crab baskets that local watermen use to catch blue crabs. Officials are calling this upcoming celebration 70 years of Christmas cheer. They say this is one of Maryland’s largest night-time parades. Marching bands, floats, classic cars, horses, and more will fill the streets with energy and excitement, as they have for the past 70 years.
“Everybody’s looking forward to it. For my kids it’s a tradition that we started. It’s a great tradition especially since it’s in the beginning of the month so it’s kind of just stating that Christmas month it kind of marks for us the beginning of the Christmas season,” said store owner Dovile Cropper.
The parade will start at 5 o’clock at night on December 1st. For more information about the parade routes and more events that will be taking place on Saturday click here.
