Chincoteague National Park

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. – Visitors will have a chance to take a drive through Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge later this month.

Beginning on Thursday, November 22nd and running through Sunday, November 25th, visitors will have the opportunity to take a 15-mile round trip journey in their own vehicles, to enjoy natural treasures found in northern areas of the refuge.

In order to access the special drive along the Service Road, visitors must enter the Wildlife Loop Trail from 12 PM to 2 PM, and follow the one-way traffic pattern to the Service Road entrance. All vehicles should completely exit the Service Road by 4 PM.

The refuge is offering some tips for those interested in taking the trip around Service Road. Visitors should bring their binoculars and a sense of wonder, remain in their vehicles and obey posted speed limits, and should not stop for extended periods or impede two-way traffic flows. Visitors should be kind to wildlife and others, and remember that bicycles are only permitted as far north as D-Dike.

Visitors are also encouraged to explore the Wildlife Loop Trail, which is great for birdwatching and photography. The trail will be open to vehicular traffic from 9 AM until dusk November 22nd through November 25th.
