Ward Museum to host annual Chesapeake Wildfowl Expo

SALISBURY, Md. – The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art Salisbury University has announced their annual Chesapeake Wildfowl Expo, taking place this coming Saturday, October 13th.

Entering its 21st year, the expo offers a day of friendly competition and family fun for all ages. A variety of activities will be offered free of charge, including soap carving and coloring activities, in addition to bake sales, yard sales, and different carving demonstrations.

One of the featured events is the annual Chesapeake Challenge, where working waterfowl decoys are judged in the water in order to evaluate their qualities and effectiveness for hunting. There will be separate competitions for shorebirds, woodpeckers, and contemporary antique decoys. A separate youth competition for carvers aged 17 and under will also be held.

Other featured parts of the expo include the Old Birds Antique Decoy Competition, the Andrews Emerging Artist Showcase gallery, as well as an exhibit of fifty great decoy carvers and their works prior to 1950.

The museum will also host its 50th Anniversary Reception, in conjunction with the expo, on Friday October 12th at 5 PM. Eastern Shore inspired hor d’oeuvers and cocktails will be offered, in addition to an auction featuring original artwork, antique decoys, waterfowling collectibles, and gift packages. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or by phone.

The expo is free to the public, and will run from 8 AM to 4 PM. If you would like more information on the expo or the reception, you can call 410-742-4988, or visit the Ward Museum website.
