Vietnam Veteran gets warm welcome home, 40 years later

SALISBURY, Md. – Monday night was a very special night for one Vietnam veteran.

Dozens of residents showed up to the Salisbury Airport to give a warm welcome home to Tom Vessey.

Originally from New Mexico, Vessey was flown in to Salisbury by the Heroes Haven foundation for an “Eastern Shore hunting experience.”

Founded five years ago, Heroes Haven helps disabled veterans dealing with depression and anxiety by taking them hunting and helping them bond with other veterans.

As for Monday night, 47 ABC is told he received this big welcome on top of the trip because he was never truly given one after returning home from Vietnam.

A very emotional Vessey said, “This is really nice and very beautiful. I never expected anything like this.”
