UPDATE: Unusual chain of events leads to fatal crash in Kent County, victim identified
HARRINGTON, Del.– Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that closed part of Route 13 near Tower Hill Road for over 7 hours Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities say that around noon, a pickup truck, driven by a 68-year-old Harrington man was traveling northbound on South Dupont Highway when the flatbed trailer it was pulling, detached.
The trailer crossed the median and entered into the opposite lane where it hit another car, driven by 21-year-old Anthony T. Mcrae, head on.
Mcrae was ejected from his car and was then struck by a passing SUV. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pickup truck driver was not injured and the driver of the SUV, a 70-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and released.
