CAROLINE COUNTY, Md. – Two Caroline County libraries will officially be reopening on Monday, following proactive treatments for possible bedbugs over the weekend.

According to officials, sniffer dog “Drax” (pictured above) returned to the Denton and Federalsburg libraries after treatment to verify that all suspicious areas had been resolved. Both locations have been cleared and will reopen to the public at noon today, Monday, October 29th.

Due to scheduling of the heat treatment, the Greensboro Branch will be treated this week and is expected to reopen next week.

According to library director Debby Bennett, “with heat treatment and verification of the effectiveness of the treatment, we have taken every precaution to ensure that our collection is safe and that our library locations are free of bedbugs. As this issue continues to arise in hotels, homes, libraries, and other public spaces, we will remain vigilant. Library staff members have been trained to recognize signs of bedbugs and will continue to inspect all materials that are returned to the library. We appreciate our customers’ support and patience.”

Library customers are able to return materials at one of the open locations, and all late fees will be waived for the period of time the libraries were closed.
