Town turning pink for annual 5K

DEWEY BEACH, Del. –  The Town of Dewey Beach is gearing up for its annual Dewey Goes Pink 5K, to be held Saturday morning.

When we swung by tonight there were already hundreds preparing for the big race Saturday morning.

This is the eighth year of the race and just last year the 5K saw 2,600 racers register and organizers say they raised $95,000.

Since they started holding the race organizers tell us they’ve raised $400,000, all of that going to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition in Sussex County.

“People are coming from Wahsington, they’re coming from Baltimore, they’re coming from Philadelphia, from Wilmington, etc.  And not only is it a great weekend to be at the beach because the weather is going to turn nice, it’s a reason for them to get together with their loved ones, their family, their neighbors that have somehow or another experienced breast cancer and celebrate,” said Steve Montgomery, the owner of the Starboard.

There is no more spots left to register but we’re, but everyone is still invited to come out and support the cause.  The race starts at 11 AM Saturday morning, and the party continues until 4 PM.
