Town officials honor local women business owners in Berlin
BERLIN, Md. – The Town of Berlin not only celebrated the annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, but they also honored the large number of women business owners in the area.
According to town officials, almost all local business owners in Berlin are women.
To help recognize their role in the community, dozens of pink balloons were set up along Main Street.
According to Ivy Wells, the Town of Berlin’s director of economic and community development, the town works hard to support their local business owners and that these women represent strength in the area.
“Definitely more than 80 percent of the businesses are owned by women, plus we have non-profits that are run by women here as well, and to prove that Berlin is so successful for women we have two shop owners that actually opened two locations,” said Wells.
“It shows women that if there’s something you want to do that you can do that, you can raise a family and have a business,” said Terri Sexton, the owner of Treasure Chest.
According to Wells, if someone sees one of the pink balloons, they should feel free to thank the women business owner.
