Smyrna dominates CR for second straight win
SMYRNA, Del.- The Smyrna Eagles defeated the Caesar Rodney
50-14 last night. The Eagles posted their second straight 50 point game in as many weeks to move to 2-2. The loss drops CR to 3-2 on they year.
Smyrna dominated on all aspects of the game in the first half. On defense and special teams they posted a 50 yard fumble recovery returned for a touchdown by Demetrius Buckner and a blocked punt Emon Roberts. On offense, the Eagles used the run game to get on the board, Stephen Whaley scored two touchdowns in the first half.
CR was able to get on the board with a short 5 yard run by Kevin Robinson midway through the second quarter. With time winding down in the half, the Riders would get the ball around midfield with over a minute to play and no timeouts but questionable play calling and poor clock management led to no score making the halftime score 22-6.
To start the second half, the Riders forced a defensive fumble and capitalized on offense with a one yard QB sneak by James Love and the two point conversion to make it a one score game 22-14.
That would be the closest CR would get to the Eagles as they would start to pull away. Smyrna outscored the Riders 28-8 in the second half getting two touchdown passes from QB Aiden Sanchez to Makhi Jackson and Emon Roberts. Stephen Whaley would also score two more touchdowns including a 92 yarder to extend his total to 4 touchdowns on the day.
The Eagles will look to make it 3 in a row when they travel to Georgetown next Friday to take on the Sussex Central Golden Knights who haven’t given up a touchdown in their past 3 games. Caesar Rodney will try and get back in the win column when they host Dover on Homecoming night next Friday at 7.
