Seaford man facing burglary charges

SEAFORD, Del. – Delaware State Police have arrested a man on burglary and other related charges.

Just before 6:30 PM Tuesday evening, troopers were called to respond to a residence on the 12000 block of Concord Road for a reported burglary in progress. The homeowner, who was not home at the time of the incident, was contacted by a neighbor who alerted them that a male subject was inside of their home.

On arrival, officers discovered a side door was ajar and appeared to be damaged. There was also a fire burning outside the back of the residence.

They then discovered 37-year-old Austin M. Ayers sitting in the middle of the living room floor with drug paraphernalia and .21 grams of marijuana beside him.

Ayers was taken into custody and charged with burglary second degree dwelling, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief, breach of release, and possession of marijuana. He was also charged in reference to starting the fire. According to officials, Ayers had previously been issued a no contact order with the residence.

He was arraigned and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $5,601 secured bond.
