Save time in line with MD early voting

MARYLAND – Get your pen and paper ready because believe it or not it’s that time of the year to cast your ballot.

“This year we’re voting on federal, state and local candidates as well as those ballot questions and they really do affect all of us and so every vote is very important,” explains Anthony Gutierrez, Elections Director for Wicomico County.

And while Election Day isn’t until November 6th, all eligible Maryland voters can go ahead and fill out their ballot as early as this Thursday, October 25th for early voting.

It’s a way to beat the big lines, save time and cast your vote.

“We hear from our early voters that it’s much more convenient. They can go on the weekend or in the evening after work so that’s one plus.”

Taking a closer look at Wicomico County, this year’s ballot will have plenty for candidates to weigh on. From things like the governor’s race all the way down to questions that can make changes in the county’s charter.

“In Wicomico County voters will have twenty contests with candidates and four ballot questions, two statewide constitutional amendments and two local charter amendments,” explains Gutierrez.

And thanks to a ballot measure passed two years ago, for the first time Wicomico County residents will get to elect their Board of Education members.

“With this election having so many local candidates and local questions, I think it’s very important to participate in this election because it affects your day to day life more so than some of the others. All elections are certainly important and so we encourage everyone to exercise their right to vote,” adds Gutierrez.

One other perk to early voting is if you missed that voter registration deadline, they’re actually giving you a second chance. Eligible Maryland residents can register to vote on the same day as early voting.

So whether you’re registered or not, go to your local early voting center and cast that ballot.

There is at least one early voting center in every county and early voting lasts until November 1st.

For more information on where your early voting center is located or what polling place you should head to on Election Day, go to Maryland’s elections website. You will also find sample ballots there too.
