Salisbury’s new law would limit new developers to a maximum number of parking spaces

SALISBURY, Md. – In Salisbury, parking spaces in the future could be limited if an amendment passes a final vote.

The bill would amend the zoning code to limit new developers to a maximum number of spaces.

Mayor Jake Day says previous government regulations would require an unnecessary amount of parking, which is bad for developers. We’re told this would force them to pay for construction and maintenance, while saving taxpayers a nice chunk of change.

“The impact it has on tax payers is every inch and every foot and yard and every mile that you push buildings apart, the public has to pay for all the infrastructure in between the two and has to pay to maintain all the infrastructure in between the two,” Mayor day tells us.

He says this is apart of a national movement where communities are re-thinking government regulation that pushes communities further apart.

The amendment passed its first reading last week and will go through its last reading on Monday for its final vote.
