Salisbury updating paid parental leave policy
SALISBURY, Md. – Expectant mother and fathers listen up. The city of Salisbury is revising its paid parental leave policy.
If you work for the city you’ll be able to take advantage of the six weeks paid leave.
However, the new revision says you will have to continue working for the city for at least 12 months after that.
The law went into effect July 1st earlier this year for fathers to have parental leave, but did not spell out the new limitation.
Mayor Day tells us the paid leave is a big win for the city of Salisbury and the city will finalize the policy update in the coming weeks.
Day said, “The paid parental leave policy is an important victory for us. What we want to acknowledge is that you shouldn’t be so negatively impacted by the choice to have a child.”
The city will discuss the ramification for this new policy at a town hall meeting on Monday.
