SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University honored former president of the school, Janet Dudley-Eshbach, with a rename of its Center for International Education.
During her time as president, Dudley-Eshbach joined students on numerous spring break service trips to areas such as Aguascalientes, Mexico, as well as serving on educational delegations to Ecuador, Spain, Cuba, and Colombia.
We’re told over the course of her 18-year tenure, the number of students studying abroad at SU nearly quadrupled. In 2016, SU was recognized by the Institute for International Education as one of the top 40 master’s comprehensive universities in the country for credits earned abroad.
Dudley-Eshbach also created the English Language Institute (ELI) in 2010. Her goal was to provide an avenue for non-native speakers to study on campus. Since the opening, the school has tripled the number of international students enrolled full time.
The International Faculty House was opened in 2012, providing accommodations for teachers, scholars, artists, and researchers from all over the world.
Officials say that SU now enrolls students each year from universities in China, Myanmar, Japan, and Spain during the summer months.
In their request to rename the center, University officials stated “Dudley-Eshbach consistently demonstrated the best qualities of academic leadership, and her vision, passion, and determination permanently enriched the students, faculty, and staff of Salisbury University, as well as the Delmarva community. That legacy deserved permanent recognition.”
