Residents attend informational meeting for Poplar Street Bridge construction
LAUREL, Del. – In Laurel dozens of concerned residents attended a public meeting to get more information about the upcoming closure of the Poplar Street Bridge. This is the second bridge in the area that will be closing for construction, and DelDot officials say repairs will take about two weeks to complete.
With only one bridge open, many residents are concerned about the congestion, delays, and detours that will come with this new closing. But at the meeting Tuesday, officials say they’re expecting construction for the bridge to go as smoothly as possible and that everything should be up and running normally over the next couple of weeks.
“A lot of good feedback tonight hopefully we were able to reassure the community that what we need to do on the Poplar St., Bridge is actually a fairly straightforward short term project and we’re hoping that obviously it will be a short term inconvenience but we want to get it in and get it done especially before the colder winter months and in the community can go back to utilizing that,” said Director of Community Relations for DelDot C.R. McLeod.
Construction of the Poplar Street Bridge is expected to begin next Monday, October 8th.
