PRMC labs once again receive accreditation from the College of American Pathologists
SALISBURY, Md. – Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) has announced that their laboratories have been awarded accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on results of recent on-site inspections as part of the CAP’s accreditation program.
The Main Lab at PRMC is earning accreditation for the 46th consecutive year, while the Respiratory ABG Lab was also awarded accreditation. The lab at the new Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute at the Ocean Pines Health Pavilion received accreditation with just a single deficiency to correct, after opening just last year.
Kimberly Cuesta, M.D., Medical Director of Laboratory Services at PRMC congratulated her team, saying, “both the new accreditation of the Ocean Pines laboratory and the re-accreditation of the main laboratory are a testament to the quality and dedication of our stellar laboratory staff.”
We’re told the inspection is designed to ensure that the highest standard of care is provided for all lab patients. Inspectors examine the lab’s records and quality control procedures for the prior two years. They also study lab staff qualifications, equipment, the overall facility and its management, and the program’s safety record.
The College of American Pathologists is the world’s largest organization of board-certified pathologists and is also the leading provider of laboratory accreditation and proficiency testing services.
