Parkside High School band get new uniforms; Prepares for Delmarvacade Competition

SALISBURY, Md. – After years of fundraising, Parkside High School band members will not only sound good, but they’ll look even better now that they’ve got their new uniforms. Band members tell 47 they’ve been looking to get some new uniforms for quite some time now and they’ve been fundraising for the past couple of years to get them. They say the old uniforms were more than 10 years old and even though the uniforms were nice, they say it was time for something new. Last year the band just got new pants but this year they have it all. New pants, hats, gloves, plumes and more. And they couldn’t be more excited. They add that The Farmers Bank of Willarda and First Shore Federal Bank were instrumental in helping raise money for the new Parkside band uniforms.

“It’s been a long process that everyone from the band and everyone from the community has been involved in so it really has taken a village to get these new uniforms,” said senior drum major Hayleigh Turner.

“In the band we do kind of call it the super suit when we put on the uniforms and it’s like we’re night and day we’re so focused and hardcore when we put on the uniforms,” said drum major Gracie Perry.

Parkside’s band is also gearing up for one of the biggest band competitions of the year, Delmarvacade, and it’s being held right here in Salisbury on Saturday.
The Annual Delmarvacade of Bands is a competition featuring high school marching bands from throughout the region. This year 13 bands will be coming to the eastern shore from Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey to compete.

“There’s over a thousand performers alone, students, but it will bring thousands of people to the stadium,” said Parkside High School’s band director Kevin Zaczkiewicz.

“It’s just so awesome to see everyone coming out and performing out of all the 13 bands we have at Delmarvacade this year it’s just going to be a really great show and we have people from all over our community coming and watching,” said Turner.

If you’re interested in attending the competition, it’ll be held at the Wicomico County Stadium tomorrow from 5 to 9 PM.
