Oktoberfest boosts sales for local business in Berlin

BERLIN, Md. – Thousands of people from all walks of life took a trip to America’s Coolest Small Town on Saturday to take part in the town’s annual Oktoberfest, serving as a way to officially kick off the fall season.

The annual festival includes things like music, food and craft vendors, the annual Fall sidewalk sale and a beer garden.

“We really stay busy through the summer all the way through Christmas, so it really kicks off fall and winter,” said Emily Vocke, the owner of Heart of Gold Kids.

According to Town of Berlin officials, the festival is a chance for local businesses to boost their sales.

“The local business owners always come to me and say, ‘Hey, we had a great day, and I had to stock up on more inventory,’ and when you have happy business owners and you have happy residents, everybody does well,” said the Town of Berlin Director of Economic and Community Development, Ivy Wells.

“This is a great opportunity for our business because we’re on a little corner, and so it allows us to market to everyone that comes to the event,” said Cailey Mitchell, who works at the Baked Dessert Cafe.

The jewelry store Treasure Chest has been in business for over forty years now and the owner said that this year she believes the town is doing better than ever before, and it is all thanks to events like Oktoberfest along with the addition of new shops.

“I think that the way the town looks and the revitalization we’ve done to have as many retails stores as we have I think a lot of people don’t realize exactly what we have in town so anytime you can bring a lot of people in town and see what we have it’s good for everybody,” said Terri Sexton, the owner of Treasure Chest.

Not only did the town celebrate Oktoberfest this year, but also their 150th anniversary.
