Ocean View Police arrest two Del. men on trespassing and other charges
OCEAN VIEW, Del. – Two Delaware men were arrested Tuesday night on trespassing and other charges.
Just after midnight, an officer from the Ocean View Police Department was patrolling in the Woodland Park development, off of Central Avenue, when he observed a suspicious vehicle. The officer watched the vehicle drive slowly through the community and eventually pull into the driveway of an occupied home. Two occupants of the vehicle allegedly then got out of the vehicle and ran towards the rear of the home. A few moments later, the officer noticed motion activation lights coming on at nearby homes and became concerned that a burglary was in progress.
The officer then knocked on the front door of the home and was advised by the homeowner that the suspect vehicle did not belong at the home. This initiated a search of the area and the two suspects were located behind the home, but began to flee on foot when they saw the officer.
Police impounded the suspect vehicle and continued searching the area, eventually locating the two suspects walking across the Giant parking lot in Millville. Both suspects, 33-year-old Michael Vanderhoeven, of Laurel, and 28-year-old Derrell Gibbs, of Dagsboro, were then taken into custody.
Through investigation, police also learned that both Vanderhoeven and Gibbs had extensive arrest records, including arrests for burglary and theft. They also found out that Vanderhoeven was wanted in Maryland on outstanding theft and stalking charges, while Gibbs was wanted in Delaware for violating probation.
Vanderhoeven was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute (SCI) in lieu of $1,300 cash bail on resisting arrest, expired temporary tags, failing to destroy expired temporary tags, and trespassing charges.
Gibbs was also committed to SCI in lieu of $1,100 cash bail on resisting arrest and trespassing charges, and an additional $10,680 bail on an outstanding capias related to the violation of probation.
