New York Man Caught With Counterfeit Money in Kent County

DOVER, Del. – Delaware State Police arrested a New York man Saturday after they say they discovered he was in possession of counterfeit products during a traffic stop.
The incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 10:06 AM when troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 2006 Toyota Sienna Van for a traffic violation in the area of the Dover Toll Plaza.
The suspect car was driving southbound in the right lane of SR 1 Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway and made an improper lane change by erratically switching into the left lane for the EZ-Pass traffic.
When troopers started to approach the car, contact was made with the driver and an odor of marijuana was detected emanating from the vehicle.
The driver, 33-year-old Alsurymi Abdulrahman from the Bronx was contacted and appeared nervous. When asked for his license and registration, Abdulrahman opened the glove box and in plain view was a large amount of U.S. currency.
The driver then quickly shut the glove box in an attempt to prevent the troopers from discovering the counterfeit currency. In addition, the trunk had an open bag containing more money.
A Delaware State Police K-9 Unit alerted the presence of illegal narcotics inside the car.
The search of the Toyota Sienna Van revealed large amounts of counterfeit Apple electronics products which included 31 lightning USB cables, five ear plugs, 110 USB Power Adapters and 91 iPhone 7 USB lightning cables. A total of $72,600 dollars in suspected counterfeit product proceeds were located and seized.
Abdulrahman was charged with counterfeit trademark, driving without a license and improper lane change. He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 7 under a $500 dollar secured bond.
