Nanticoke Road closed due to wash out
WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Delmarva experienced a significant amount of rain last week that caused some serious flooding across, especially in Wicomico County.
Nanticoke Road is one of the roads that was hit the hardest, causing part of the road to be completely washed out.
Rockawalking Creek that cuts right underneath the road received more than seven inches of rain in just a few hours last Thursday night and Friday morning.
According to Maryland SHA, that rain caused a large chunk of land to break away from the embankment and clog the drain system which then led to the flooding and eventual wash out.
As a result, Nanticoke Road is officially closed and will stay closed anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months. SHA says engineers are still evaluating the damage, but initial assessments indicate repairs could take significant amount of time.
Motorists can detour using Crooked Oak Lane and Rockawalkin Road.
