MILFORD, Del. – This Saturday, Delaware residents can take their unwanted medications to the Milford Police Department to safely dispose of them.

Milford Police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration are teaming up once again to give the public the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Liquids, needles, or sharps cannot be accepted, only pills or patches.

Officials say medicines that sit in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are extremely high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses as a result of these drugs.

Residents can drop off their medications from 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, October 27th. The Milford Police Department is located at 400 Northeast Front Street. More information can be found on the National Take Back Day website or the Milford Police Department’s website.
