Mega Millions jackpot inches closer to $1 billion
The next numbers will be drawn on Friday.
47 ABC – The Mega Millions jackpot has climbed to $970 million, inching ever-closer to the $1 billion mark.
Officials raised the estimated jackpot Thursday, for the second time, due to strong sales ahead of Friday night’s drawing. This after no one won the Mega Millions jackpot during Tuesday’s drawing.
The $970 million prize refers to the annuity option, paid over 29 years. Most winners take the cash option, which would pay an immediate $513.4 million before taxes. About half of the jackpot winnings would go to taxes.
The prize is the second-largest jackpot in U.S. history, behind only a $1.6 billion Powerball prize won in 2016.
No one has matched all six numbers and won the Mega Millions grand prize since July 24, when a California office pool of 11 coworkers shared $543 million — the largest prize ever won on a single ticket in the game. That reflects the game’s long odds , at one in 302.5 million.
Additionally, one hit Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot, worth an estimated $345 million. The winning numbers were 3, 64, 69, 68, and 57, and the Powerball was 15.
The jackpot for Saturday’s Powerball drawing has now grown to $430 million with an estimated cash value of $248 million.
