Locals invited to take part in this year’s Empty Bowl Project
OCEAN CITY, Md. – Anyone interested in helping fight hunger on a local scale is invited to participate in this year’s Empty Bowl Project in Ocean City.
Entering its 5th year, the project benefits the Diakonia food pantry, as well as the programs of the Art League of Ocean City.
This project is an international grassroots effort created to help fight hunger while providing the opportunity to use art in a way that supports the community. Beginning with bowl-making sessions and ending with a soup dinner, it is a joint effort of the Art League of Ocean City and Diakonia to raise awareness and funds for hunger relief.
The public can get involved by hand-making ceramic soup bowls this fall and winter. Sessions are available at the Ocean City Center for the Arts, and all materials including instruction are included.
300 bowl-making slots are available tot he public for a cost of $25 per slot, which includes the bowl as well as admission to the soup dinner on March 29th, 2019. The dinner will be held at the Arts Center and is open to the public, holding continuous seating hours from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
You do not have to have previously made a bowl in order to attend the dinner; bowls and soup can be purchased at the door for a $25 donation. Top local restaurants will donate the soup, breads, and dessert. A cash bar, soup-to-go station, silent auction, and live music will also be featured at the event.
